A bright luminescent haze filled his vision, distorted shapes loomed overhead. Odd noises, voices maybe, sounds like jibberish. Feels as though he'd been hit by a truck. Thoughts were starting to sort out.

Shapes have become Doctors and nurses. Restraints are not in use, memories are returning.

37 watched the nurses move around, messing with the machines. His decision had been made, no longer would he suffer the agony and anguish of these experiments. Vengeance.

The doctor came into the room. The time has come. The moment is at hand.

37 jerked upright and grabbed the doctor by the neck, ripping the IV out of his arm he shoved it behind the doctors ear and into his brain. The mans eyes rolled to the back of his head, he dropped dead before he hit the floor.

"No longer." A nurse near the computer terminal tried to make for the door, 37 reached out and grabbed her by the hair. "Blood will be mine." He slammed the nurses head into the computer monitor and a blood curdling scream pierced the air. Over and over again he smashed her face into the terminal, the sickening thwack of bloody flesh became louder, soon she stopped twitching. 37 released his grip and the corpse fell to the floor and started forming a pool of blood.

"More." 37 made his way into the hallway and started running down the corridor, a guard came around the corner just in time to have his nose broken by 37's elbow. 37 toppled the man to the ground and wrapped both hands around his throat. He squeezed with the strength born of utter desperation. The guards breathing faded then stopped completely. 37 closed the mans eyelids then rummaged through his pockets, taking the dead mans ID he put it between his teeth. Finding the mans wallet he opened it up to see a picture of him, and what appeared to be the guards wife and child. 37 withdrew the picture and placed it in the dead mans hands. Grabbing the guards gun, he bolted down the hallway.

A set of security doors stood in his way to the control room, he slid the dead guards ID through the keypad and the light went green, the door cracked open. 37 cautiously opened the door and slipped inside. The room was dark except for a bank of control consoles on the far wall.

A guard came rushing out of the shadows, and before 37 could raise the gun and fire off a shot, the guard pinned him to the wall. "You won't make it out of here thirty-seven. They'll kill you before then!"
They grappled over the gun in 37's hands, 37 forcing the gun toward the guards head. "Then I'll take you with me." With that he pulled the trigger and splattered the guards brains over the wall. Letting the dead guard's body fall to the floor, he made his way over to the bank of consoles.

Not finding the command he was looking for he became increasingly frustrated and shot the console. Lights flickered. Had he shorted the security systems? Must have, 37 could hear people running down the corridor and others yelling, a few screams of pain and agony. The other projects must've gotten out when he shot the console.

Using the distraction to his full advantage he flew down the corridor, barreling over anyone that dared stand in his way. Two more guards came sprinting around the corner, and right into 37. 37 raised the gun and fired into the first mans face, right through his eye and out the back of his skull. Pressing forward he pushed the pistol through the freshly made hole in the mans head and shot the second guard twice in the chest. The second man fell against the wall then slumped towards the floor leaving a smear of blood on the wall.

    One more checkpoint.

Making his way to the outer courtyard, 37 saw the final guard shack. Checking the stolen pistol he noticed he was out of ammunition. Tossing it aside he sprinted across the courtyard and leaned up against the guard shack. The guard hadn't noticed him yet. Quickly looking around he saw a wheelbarrel full of garden tools. Grabbing a shovel he edged around the corner, shovel ready to swing. He heard a crunch, snapping his head down he saw a branch. Damn it all. The guard turned just in time to see his demise. SPLUUTCH! The shovels blade buried itself halfway through the guards neck. Blood spurting he spasmed and fell to the ground twitching. "I'll see you in hell."

Once inside the guard shack he looked around for the control to open the gate, but spotted a book on a table that lay open. 37 picked it up and turned it over. Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde. His eyes widened, something about that name. It felt right. Throwing down the book, he found the gate controls and opened the way to freedom.

No longer 37 but Jekyll, sprinted into the night.
